BiblioWorks Continues Crucial Work in Bolivia, Despite Political Problems Print E-mail

    In September of this year BiblioWorks had to make a difficult decision and evacuate staff from Bolivia temporarily.  In August and September there were many protests, road blockades and violent confrontations between police/military and protestors.  Bolivian President Evo Morales ultimately decided to expel the U.S. Ambassador to Bolivia, Philip Goldberg, at which point BiblioWorks made the decision to evacuate our staff.

Biblioworks opens two new libraries and meets goals for making libraries sustainable Print E-mail

BiblioWorks has gone through many changes this year.  The biggest of these is that Megan Sherar, our project coordinator in Bolivia for the past two years, is moving home to return to her family and loved ones in the United States. The work that Megan did while in Bolivia, both as a Peace Corps volunteer in Morado K’asa and as Project Coordinator for BiblioWorks is impressive and will live on long after she moves on to other challenges. I heartily thank her for her dedication to education and her passion for bettering the lives of Bolivian families.  Best of luck in your future endeavors, Megan!

We are delighted to announce that BiblioWorks has hired Matthew Lynn to lead our library projects in Bolivia. Matthew takes over this position from Megan Sherar who has worked for the past three years to build and develop seven community libraries in the impoverished rural region of Chuquisaca.

Maritza Valdez is a young Bolivian woman, who has a creative and dynamic spirit. She has been working with BiblioWorks since January of 2008 and loves the work that we do. She has been dedicated to education her entire professional life.
